Interested in being a member of the Communications Committee?

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Communications Committee!

Communications Member Roles

First off, you can be as involved as little or as much you want to be.  All of us have busy lives and the JCDP is very appreciative of any contribution of ideas, time, and skills that you can give.

The Communications Committee helps the JCDP reach out to the community by words and images with the message "Yes We Can! Let's work together to make real change that will better people's lives".  How we can best do that is multi-faceted and open ended.

No specific skills are needed, but, of course if you have specific skills germaine to communications (in any aspect) they are certainly needed, including multimedia.  As well as 'traditional' communication skills (writers, editors...), we can use technical skills for building  online structures (such as databases and the forms to collect information).  But, having specific skills to perform special tasks is actually a minor part of what communications is about.  The most important thing you can provide is to think up ideas of what we need to be communicating and how we can engage our community in an exchange of information and creative thinking to solve issues.

We need people who will connect with groups and information sources outside our own in order to get critical content - we need to build an information network that includes and supports all needs in our community.  And we need analysts and managers to make sure this large communication system is serving its purpose effectively and efficiently (and we will have sub groups needing headship as well). Statistics and Datamining is another service that we will also help with (using database info). And we will be working intimately with Marketing/PR.

In short, you are needed! You will decide what you'd like to do and how active you want to be.  Don't think you don't have useful skills!  We need a lot of help (like making telephone calls, taking notes, sending emails out, getting prices for media production, give feedback as to what you think is working or not, etc.). We are all equally important as it takes all of us working together to make a communication system WORK. And we will train you for skills you are interested in (such as upkeep of our web site or other).

We'll be doing a lot of our interaction by email for efficiency, but, a monthly meeting will allow us to have the personal engagement that a synergistic team needs in order to play off of each other ideas and to quickly come to decisions in unity.

My personal sincere thank you for stepping up to the call of "Yes We Can". I look forward to working with you,

Linda Sturgeon
