HEALTH CARE  ACTION ON TWO FRONTS

We’re on it, Mr. President!

JCDems have rapid response teams sending letters to our politicians and to the area 

papers, and making calls en masse to our Senators and Congressmen (That would be 

Representatives in Oregon) at both the national and state level.

We are part of a coalition with Oregon  Action and Health Care 

for America NOW

Nan Trout (482-9747) coordinates a team of 19 (and growing) Dems who have agreed to either 

call or write (or both) when she sends out the word.

Bruce Bauer (779-0589) is building another team of supporters from the JCD and Planned 

Parenthood.

Ann Magill  (488-7673) is creating one from library supporters and health professionals.

and teachers.

June Buck (772-4332) is concentrating on retirees of the OEA/NEA.

Recent LOCAL ACTION

·         Local LTEs on health care reform 

·         Attended/testified in favor of  HB 2009 @ Legislative Hearing

       in Grants Pass

·         Called the US Senate Finance Committee members re: 

            national heatlh care reform

·         More to come! The goal is 500 calls from southern Oregon.

TIMELINE:  The Oregon legislature intends to put HB2009 on the Governor’s desk in mid April. 

PUSH PUSH PUSH!

   National legislation is being built now in the Senate Finance Committee. Senators Max Baucus 

and Ted Kennedy are collaborating on a single bill. Senator Wyden is working with Republicans 

on another bill. Hopefully these will merge this summer.  At the moment the national PUSH will be 

in June.
