TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS !!!!!!!! Saturday, March 28th, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm is Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a global event asking everyone to turn off lights and electrical appliances for just one hour. Organizers expect millions of homes to go dark in what is being called the largest planned power outage in history.

It's been a busy week for Jackson County Democrats. Our Rapid Response Team jumped into action to support the President's proposed budget. The Oregon Legislature is working on several bills with respect to health care. We are starting to see funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Remember it's our tax money that is being returned! Funds are arriving from the ARRA (Stimulus Package) and future dollars available in the 2009-2011 Congressional Budget. In addition the legislature is rewriting Oregon's provider tax - which will hopefully increase both the number of providers taxed and the rates they pay. This bill is the source of our matching funds for further federal largesse.

JOBS!
Thanks to President Obama's stimulus package, the United States Forest Service has awarded $3 million in contracts that will employ 150 people in Southern Oregon. The jobs will focus on reducing wildfire danger. $1.4 million will go to the Hope Mountain Stewardship Project. Grayback Forestry has been awarded two contracts totaling $925,000. Diamond Fire received two contracts totaling about $580,000.
Greyback President Mike Wheelock said: "This is definitely a shot in the arm. After being faced with cutbacks, this is real uplifting for everybody in the company."
