Hi, I'm Linda Sturgeon.  I'm the JCDP Communications Committee Chair and I'd really like to hear from you why YOU are proud to be a Democrat.  Email me at communicationschair@jcdemocrats.org. Each week I'll add your reasons to this list (and your name if you like, or remain annonymous). It's important for us to think about why we stand for Democratic principals and to speak up and let others know.  Take time to read our Jackson County Democratic Platform and know what the JCDP stands for.  And tell people why you're proud to be a Democrat!

I am a Proud Democrat because:

  1. "In 1957 my mother took me to visit relatives in Arkansas.  My aunt took me to the public swimming pool.  Oh, I'm so sorry, you can't swim today.  It's the day before they change the water.  It's colored day.  The Democrats changed that".
  2. "I believe in respect and appreciation for the Constitution, the environment, the lives and rights and work of others".
  3. " ... well, what else would I be?  I can't imaging being anything else but a Democrat".
  4. "I'm a proud American, I'm a proud Oregonian, I'm a proud Democratic member of the LGBT community.  I've been a Democrat all my life and as fas as I know, I've been gay all my life.  I'm a Democrat because Democrats accept my community and my people fully and we're part of the leadership".
  5. "I'm a Democrat because I believe in the future -- a future of integrity and honesty and dignity.
  6. "I'm a Democrat because I believe in the Declaration of Independence where Thomas Jefferson tells us that each and every person is created by God and has God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  7. " We have a tremendous number of people in our country that I think really can take a helping hand from an awful lot of us across the country".
  8. "The Democratic party makes it clear that it wants the best for all people, not just a few, not just the powerful, but everyone".
  9. "I've been a Democrat my entire life ... (the same) is with my family ... I grew up that everybody had an equal right for everything".
  10. "I care about feeding the hungry, clothing and housing the poor, healing the sick who can't afford it, and treating the incarcerated humanely". 
  11. "because decency and humanity are required".
  12. "I'm a proud Democrat because Democrats make people's live better".
  13. "I'm proud to be a Democrat because it feels like home to me -- a home where we believe in the power of love, not the love of power".

    1. "I believe that we should provide for the common good where no one is left out with lesser care, lesser rights or lesser opportunity - the Democrat party supports these values."
    2. "I am proud of being a Democrat because I'm standing with people who really CARE about EVERYONE - that we look at things from another's person's point of view with genuine consideration and concern as though it was OUR issue, our problem, our need - not just special interest of making sure 'I get ahead and am ok - so what about anyone else' ".

    1. "I am a Democrat because I believe access to clean water, food and health care are human rights".
    2. "I am a Democrat because I believe war is the last option".
    3. "I am a Democrat because I believe that all people are created equal and have a right to live as they wish. All nations deserve a chance at the same".
    4. "I am a Democrat because I believe there is a great impenetrable wall between religion and government, and I want to live in a country where all faiths are equally welcome".
    5. "I am a Democrat because I don’t want my tax dollars paying for state-sponsored execution. If even one innocent is executed, then I am a party to murder. Executing the guilty does not bring back their victims".
    6. "I am a Democrat because I believe the United States must take the lead in environmental protection, and that if we do, the developing world will follow".  
    7. "I am a Democrat because I believe people deserve a living wage for a day’s work".
    8. "I am a Democrat because I believe that regulation is a necessary evil, and that it’s only human nature for powerful people to abuse the system for their own gain in the absence of proper regulation."
    9. "I am a Democrat because I believe that a society with less poverty is a healthier, safer society for everyone, and it is therefore in the interest of those who have done well to pay more on behalf of those who have not done as well".
    10. "I am a Democrat because I believe the United States should welcome hard-working, law-abiding immigrants who wish to live and raise a family here, and not demonize them".
    11. "I am a Democrat because I believe that community, distinct culture and free expression in the arts are integral to a healthy life".
