EVENTS

The evening's program includes Whistling Elk Drum, 4-H Youth theater STOP THE HATE, dance, mural art and video. There will be a youth panel addressing issues related to higher education, at-risk behaviors and legislation affecting immigrants. 
 
For the first time at this year's event we will be honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the local immigrant community.  Please join us as we honor these individuals and commemorate the life of Chavez and his dream of dignity and justice for farm workers and immigrants.

Current and Future Regional Water Needs Discussed in Ashland.  Article by Don Morris.

The Ashland Water Forum from March 19th revealed that Ashland has no back up water supply in the event of serious drought or natural disasters in the city’s watershed. Ashland city government is not sitting at the table with the partners and advisory committee of the regional management study of water resources in the Butte Creek and Bear Creek watersheds. Oregon GOP seeks to cut Capital Gains Taxes

Please read Kevin McCormick’s important review of Oregon Republican House Bill 3268.  This bill would target tax cuts for those earning $200,000 a year or more.  Contact your representatives to stop this bill. Sponsored by six Republican reps including Scott Bruun (Lake Oswego), Bill Garrard (Klamath Falls) and House Republican Leader Bruce Hanna (Roseburg), the bill overwhelmingly favors the wealthiest of Oregonians, according to the Democratic House Majority office.  Click here to stop this bill.

  

On April 2nd, the Oregon Senate President and House Speaker announced the 2009-2011 Budget Process with the Potential List of Cuts to be released on April 3rd.

The 2009-2011 budget faces a deficit estimated to grow from the current forecast of $3.1 billion to $4.4 billion.  That budget balancing process begins Friday when the co-chairs will release a list of potential cuts from every state agency amounting to 30 percent. That information can be found at a new website -- http://www.leg.state.or.us/budget/ put together by the Legislative Fiscal office. The list will be posted at 1 p.m.

Action: Included in the schedule are numerous opportunities for public input at hearings, as well as the ability to see all the potential cuts that must be considered as the Legislature develops the 09-11 budget.
