You've probably seen in this week's news some of the Republicans' plans for "Tax Day Tea Parties" on April 15th. At first, I wanted to laugh when I heard these ultra conservatives were trying to align the Boston Tea Party with their patent dislike for all taxes. If history serves me, the Boston Tea Party was a protest about 'Taxation without Representation', and last time I checked we have one of the best representative democracies in the world.
Once again, the far right has come up with an attempt to distort history and divide our country.
Right now, what our country and our communities need is solidarity, help, compassion, and patriotism -- not bitter, baseless protests. Starting tomorrow (while Republicans and so-called "conservatives" are busy staging mis-named protests), we'll be showing our communities what T-E-A PARTY means to us.
Let's invest in America by helping those in need within our own communities. Show everyone what T-E-A PARTY means to you by donating:
T - for Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc.)
E - for Every kind of rice, pasta & dry goods
A - for Anything canned (especially protein!)
I hope you'll join me by showing your community what T-E-A means to Democrats and Americans everywhere. Together, we can put protests in their place and really make an impact where it's needed most.
Sincerely,
Trent Lutz
Executive Director
Democratic Party of Oregon
