House Passes Bill Helping Oregon Farmers HB 2763 would give preference to Oregon agricultural products in public bids SALEM – The House today passed a bill, championed by Representative Brian Clem (D-Salem), which would allow contracting agencies that buy goods for the public to give preferential treatment to Oregon-based agricultural products. “Many Oregon counties and state agencies want to buy produce grown right here in the state by Oregon farmers,” said Clem. “Unfortunately, the way the system currently operates there are far too many obstacles in the way.”
|
Now the bill goes to the Senate. Write Sen Allen Bates that you support HB 2763
The bill helps ensure that Oregon tax dollars are being used to support Oregon companies and their employees in order to help lead our state out of the economic recession. Under HB 2763, as long as the cost of a locally grown product is within ten percent of an out of state product, the contracting agency can give it preference.

State House Democrats Vote for Increased Privacy Protections HB 2371 would restrict exchanging electronic information gathered through data harvesting SALEM – House Democrats today passed HB 2371, which increases privacy protections for Oregonians. The bill, carried on the floor by Representative Jean Cowan (D-Newport), would restrict exchanging electronic information gathered through data harvesting. |
“The purpose of this bill is to prevent data harvesting from our state issued driver’s licenses and identification cards,” said Cowan. “There is a fear that information gathered in this way might be used for purposes not approved by consumers.”
“This is an important step to continue to protect the privacy of Oregonians,” said Representative Brent Barton (D-Clackamas).
The bill now goes to the Senate. Write Sen Allen Bates that you support HB 2763
