Jackson County Democrats joined Health Care for America NOW supporters in front of Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield with signs and music on April 28th to tell Regence, “You’re the poster child for why we need a public health insurance option.”
Joined by Oregon Action, SEIU, AFSCME, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), over 30 people braved the rain and sang, “Once I Had a Health Care Plan,” and “Hello Regence,” to Regence executives. Regence raised their premiums in the individual market 26% last year and are demanding another 19% this year. Alberto Enriquez of the Jackson County Democrats and Oregon Action told Regence that 91% of 389 Rogue Valley residents who were polled said they want either the choice of a public health insurance plan in addition to the option of keeping their own insurance or prefer a purely public health insurance plan. The coalition also announced May 17th events all over Oregon from 4- 6 PM featuring Representative Earl Blumenauer (by phone) to discuss the public health insurance option. The JCDP will host one of these events at our headquarters in Medford on May 17th from 4-6 PM.
