In Medford School District, and throughout Jackson County, severe cuts
are threatening our schools and our ability to educate our children. Medford
School District is discussing cutting 23 teachers, elementary music, middle
school sports, and potentially moving to a four-day school week.
That's why we're asking you, and thousands of Oregonians, to sign postcards
this month. Take action - send a postcard to your legislators today!

This May we'll present the postcards to our local legislative leaders to
make sure they know that schools can't absorb more cuts, and that they
must pursue a more balanced approach; one that combines lesser cuts with
reasonable revenue increases.
Send your postcards today at www.stand.org/or/postcard.
If you've already signed your postcards, forward this message to your friends
and family and ask them to take action now.
In these trying times, it's also critical that we elect the right people to lead our
schools. Stand for Children has endorsed Jeff Thomas, Sally Killen, Paulie Brading and Tricia Prendergast for Medford School Board. Learn more, and return your ballot before May 19th!
If we don't act now, Oregon's public schools could be forced to make cuts that
could reverse the gains we’ve worked for over the past few years – or set us
back even further. It's time to speak up and let our leaders know that even in
tough times, more cuts to education are simply not acceptable.
Take action today at www.stand.org/or/postcard - and don't forget to vote!
We are facing unprecedented cuts in all government services, just as the demand for many of those services increases with the recession. At the same time, the corporate tax burden in Oregon accounts for less than 5% of general fund expenditures, is the third lowest in the nation and the lowest of eleven western states.
