Dear friend,
Today Governor Kulongoski vetoed the K-12 budget you've worked hard to defend.
While the legislature's $6 billion allocation does not prevent cuts in every district, it represents a responsible shared solution: new revenue, use of reserves, and $500 million in cuts.
Unfortunately, Governor Kulongoski thinks the legislature has done too much to protect schoolchildren - he advocates taking more money from schools and putting those dollars in reserves.
We need our legislators to override Governor Kulongoski's veto. That means we need 20 Senators and 40 Representatives to vote YES for a $6 billion budget for K-12 schools - and legislators will re-vote on this bill as early as tomorrow.
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE & SENATOR NOW! Find your legislators & their phone numbers: www.stand.org/or/leglookup
Tell them, "My name is __________, and I live in your district. I urge you to override the Governor’s veto and stop even worse cuts to schools. Please vote YES on Senate Bill 5520 and Senate Bill 5554. Thank you."
You've worked for months to get the legislature to pass this shared solution. Now it is time to stand up and speak up to protect what we've worked so hard for. Take just five minutes to call your legislators now - and when you're done, forward this email to your friends and family and ask them to do the same.
Standing with you for children,
Dana Hepper Oregon Advocacy Director
