Talking Points for Us*

*Neighborhood Leaders, Democrats in general, and other liberals/progressives

Here are some talking points from ORD2 Indivisible:

ON VETERANS, Cliff Bentz voted:

NO on a bill that provides money for the education of kids whose parents died in Iraq or Afghanistan.

NO on a bill that prohibits the VA from charging a co-pay for contraceptives if commercial insurance is not allowed to charge one.

NO on a bill that would have automatically enrolled eligible veterans into VA care after service.

And NO on the “PACT Act,” a bill that would have made veterans who have been exposed to toxic burn pits eligible for medical and mental health care in the VA system. (NOTE: The Senate passed this act once, then blocked it. Check out Jon Stewart’s response after last week’s vote)

ON HEALTHCARE AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, Cliff Bentz voted:

NO on bills would guarantee access to contraception. (NOTE: That’s a vote against basic birth control!)

NO on bills that would guarantee access to abortion.

NO on a bill that would require insurance companies to pay for congenital anomalies and birth defects. (NOTE: He voted against children with birth defects!)

NO on a bill that would cap cost-sharing in commercial health insurance and Medicare to $35 per month.

NO on a bill that directs the EPA to list PFAS/PFOS as hazardous substances (in non-stick cookware and weatherproof clothing, for example) and to study them further.

ON GUN SAFETY, Cliff Bentz voted:

NO on a bill that creates a national coordinator for active shooter events.

NO on a bill that helps states set up temporary protection orders to prevent people who are likely to harm people from owning a gun.

NO on a bill that prevents people under 21 from owning semi-automatic guns.

NO on a bill that would ban assault weapons. (NOTE: He actually thinks people need assault weapons to defend themselves)
