Run with Your Local Democrats in 2026!
If you truly want to elect more moderates and progressives to office—people who will use common sense and stand up to the nonsense and nightmare of the current administration and Project 2025—perhaps you should consider running yourself! Or, encourage a friend to run!
Become a Local Democratic PCP
-
If you're new to all of this, consider becoming a Democratic Precinct Committee Person (PCP).
-
It's your easy, first step to learning about the election process and building your political network.
-
PCPs are the grassroots core of the Jackson County Democratic Party's Central Committee.
-
As a PCP, you help manage the local party's activities and work to elect Democrats to positions at all levels of government: from school board members and city councilors up to the United States Congress.
-
The PCP position is a 2-year term, and there is a very easy process to get elected in the Primary Election.
The deadline to file for election as a PCP in the May 2026 Primary election has passed. However, there is still space on your PCP ballot for you to write in your name as a candidate. To be elected, you must receive at least three votes from registered Democrats within your precinct (your own vote plus two others).
To Run as a Write-In PCP Candidate
If you intend to run as a write-in, you must file a formal declaration with the county. You can complete the SEL 105D Write-in Candidate Declaration online here:
To Nominate a Write-In PCP Candidate
If you would like to nominate another registered Democrat in your precinct to serve as a PCP, you must submit a nomination form. Please use the SEL 105N Write-in Candidate Nomination link below:
Or, Aim Higher: Run for a Local Board or Council
-
City Council, Parks and Recreation, and Water District positions are often non-partisan, making them accessible for new progressive leaders.
-
These overlooked but very important public entities make critical decisions on housing, public safety and infrastructure that affect you.
-
Start by attending a few public meetings to learn the lay of the land.
-
Even in the most conservative parts of the county, moderates and progressives have run successfully for these positions.
If you care about your community, want to serve others, and are willing to learn, you are already a good candidate!
