Where to take nonperishable food donations

Many families in our community will lose their SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits this month and will struggle to feed themselves and their families.  People who depend on Food Stamps include working poor families, low income seniors, college students, low income disabled people, and veterans. The Jackson County Democrats want to help get food to these folks as soon as possible. 

​

PLEASE NOTE: not all food pantries are able to accept donations of food. So, please bring your donated nonperishable food to one of the locations listed below. Stay tuned as we will add more places to donate nonperishable food as we continue to verify which organizations are able to receive donations. 

​

Some of the most requested items at food banks:

  • Cooking Oil

  • Canned Tuna, Salmon, and SPAM

  • Canned Chili, Stew, and Canned Hearty Soups

  • Pasta

  • Rice

  • Canned or Dried Beans  

  • Applesauce  

  • Peanut Butter

  • Boxed Shelf Stable Milk (including plant-based milks; Soy, Oat, Coconut, etc.)

Items most food banks cannot accept:

  • Rusty or unlabeled cans

  • Perishable items (foods that are fresh, prepared foods, refrigerated, or frozen)

  • Homemade foods

  • Non-commercial canned or packaged items

  • Alcoholic beverages, mixes or sodas

  • Opened or used items

You can also drop off nonperishable (shelf-stable) food items during off hours on the southeast side of the building. 

 

Ashland Emergency Food Bank serves anyone who lives in Ashland and Talent. People needing food just need to bring something that shows they live in the Ashland/ Talent area.

 

PLEASE NOTE: the Medford Food Project and the Ashland Food Project held their Bi-monthly food drives in October. So, due to the Food Emergency, it’s important to get food to the food banks in November!
